Job Opening: Director of Advancement

Agency Information:
Boys & Girls Town of Missouri is a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit agency. Contracted fees from state agencies such as Children's Division, the Department of Mental Health and the Division of Youth Services comprise 70 percent of the organization's funding. The remaining 30 percent is generated through private referrals and charitable contributions.

For more than 55 years, Boys & Girls Town of Missouri has been a leader in providing specialized treatment programs and services for troubled boys and girls from birth to age 21. With campuses in St. James, St. Louis, Springfield, and Columbia, Boys & Girls Town is one of the largest children's agencies in the state.

The agency's mission is "to improve the lives of children with emotional and behavior problems through superior, family-focused services"

Summary of Position
The Director of Advancement for the Columbia campus of Boys & Girls Town of Missouri will plan and oversee all fundraising activities in Central Missouri including individual, corporate and foundation gifts. Responsibilities include increasing annual, capital and endowment support in the region, in addition to actively supporting statewide fundraising initiatives. The director will expand and strengthen community relationships, donor cultivation, media/public relations, and annual fund activities. The director reports to the senior vice president for Advancement.

Essential Functions
" Implement current development plan and create a long-term strategy for the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of charitable gifts.
" Responsible for broadening the regional donor base, soliciting major gifts, planning and executing special events, securing leadership support, and motivating and managing board fundraising efforts
" Responsible for coordinating capital campaign initiatives, including staff support for the campaign committee to include the final stages of the current campaign and campus dedication event in the spring of 2009.
" Develop and present individual, corporate and foundation proposals for funding and presentations to civic and community organizations to increase visibility and support.

Position Requirements
" College degree and three (3) or more years of professional development experience
" Exceptional verbal, analytical, and written communication skills
" Computer expertise in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other related software required; donor database experience preferred
" Possess a current, valid driver's license and meet BGTM's requirements for insurance.

Job Description:

Background Information:
Sustainable Farms & Communities (SF&C) is a non-profit 501(c)(3)
organization based in Columbia, Missouri, dedicated to educating the
community about the benefits of locally-produced food and supporting efforts of
local farmers and producers. SF&C was originally chartered in 1998 to
lead an initial effort to design and build a permanent pavilion to
house the Columbia Farmers Market (CFM).

General Summary:
The position will direct the development of funds for SF&C through the
assessment and planning of fundraising activities, including but not
limited to: financial planning, grant-writing, and the solicitation of
major gifts from foundations, corporations, and individuals.Additionally,
the successful candidate will lead the planning and/or support of
fund-raising and educational events, and will represent SF&C, CFM, and the
surrounding area at local events. The position will operate under the
direct supervision of the SF&C Board of Directors in close cooperation
with other constituents. This position will require flexible hours,
including nights and weekends. There is a minimum commitment of one year
subject to evaluation of performance with continued employment dependant
on available funding.

Essential Responsibilities:
Develop and implement fundraising plan.
Plan, direct, and manage everyday fundraising activities.
Develop and maintain current and future client relationships, including the conduction. of solicitation meetings with potential donors.
Manage budgetary needs, including developing a funding method for
position's continual employment.
Research, write, and direct the implementation and submission of
potential grants.
S erve as spokesperson for the campaign, including sponsoring, and or presenting, at special events to generate interest for the project.
Oversee and manage volunteer staff.
Develop and implement of communication plan and related resources.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
The successful candidate must possess a four year degree or a
combination of education and relevant experience, a proven track record
directing fundraising initiatives, successful completion of fundraising
projects, and experience working with a non-profit Board of Directors.

Preferred Requirements:
Knowledge of food security issues and the role farmers markets play in
addressing the contribution to local economies and the role local food
and farmers play in building community.
